A LIGHT HAS GONE OUT
But has penetrated me
and glows within every
bone of my old body.
It’s an aliveness that
can’t ever be quenched.
She was a living flower
for all to see and know.
She was tough, but oh,
so gentle.
No wind was ever strong
enough to blow her down.
A phalanx of hummingbirds
stood guard as she waited
to be plucked by the undivided
tenderness of my loving hands.
She is gone, but never will be
forgotten. Every day without
her feels like a good day to die.
